We can schedule a private ASA Instructor at almost any time, subject to boat and instructor availability. If you're serious about boating or chartering on your own some day, you can earn certification in Basic Sailing, Basic Coastal Cruising or Powerboat handling and safety courses. You will then be able to take a bareboat vacation on your own private charter boat! FYC is an American Sailing Association certified training facility (in fact, we were named ASA's School of the Year!), and your captain is an ASA qualified instructor. As an ASA-trained student, your skills and achievement levels are internationally recognized. That means when you learn with us, you can charter anywhere. Your instructor will work closely with you prior to your departure to choose an agenda that fits your needs.
Private ASA Sailing Instructor Joe Cetner
Joe Cetner grew up on the water. Originally from the Chain-O-Lakes region in Illinois, he relocated to southwest Florida in 1990 to pursue a career in the maritime industry. After acquiring enough sea time in various ship yards he became a 100 ton master captain and eventually a commercial tug operator.
After purchasing his beloved "CONCH RAIDER", (a Bayfield 32 cutter), he cut his land ties and moved aboard.
What followed was a single handed journey across the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
His passion for the cruising life led him to teaching. He became an ASA instructor enabling him to guide future sailors in the cruising life style with his unique approach. He is presently affiliated with several top sailing schools, teaching and chartering from south west Florida, the Keys and the Bahamas. His forte is blending instruction and a great boat charter in one experience. He brings along a little fishing, guitar playing and great stories along each trip.
